The effect of editing techniques on machine translation-informed academic foreing language writing

Although the field of machine translation has witnessed huge improvements in recent years, its potentials have not been fully exploited other interdisciplinary areas such as foreign language teaching. The aim this paper, therefore, is to report an experiment which technology was employed teach a group students. This mixed-method study explores effect teaching editing techniques Persian EFL university students academic writing course. Twenty took part 4-day workshop one session devoted and three remaining sessions use techniques, namely, correcting mistakes, removing ambiguities, simplifying structures combining structures. Each consisted pre-test, training post-test. In addition, each session, key point, determiners, paraphrasing collocations were discussed. A questionnaire for candidates’ demographic information another learning experiences administered. results indicated statistically significant improvement overall gain score. Further analysis showed determiners contrast collocations. Lack data driven collocation seemed stem from weakness vocabulary grammatical knowledge both mother tongue target language. Analysis revealed that instruction proved be beneficial since it could easily implemented correction confirmation. On whole, can concluded providing correct type guidance feedback on how will indeed profound skill.
